How to License Images

Rights Managed Licensing

Rights Managed (RM) licenses are available. Fees are determined using fotoQuote, the industry standard pricing guide for stock and assignment photography. Fees vary greatly depending on the specific type of use. Licenses are granted for one-time non-exclusive use. That means you can use the image for one type of use only. Reuse of the photo would require additional licensing fees.

Our Rights Managed licensing fees are negotiable; however no transaction will be conducted below our minimal fee of $150.00. To request a quote for any usage, please contact us and provide us with the following information:

Photo Number

Contact Information

Specific Use (book, magazine, brochure, Website etc.)

Industry (advertising, corporate, editorial, etc.)

Circulation – amount that will be produced

Distribution (local, regional, national, international)

Image size (full page, ½ page, ¼ page etc.)

File size needed - size & resolution

Image placement (cover, inside etc.)

Duration – amount of time you plan to use the image/s

Deadline - date image(s) are needed

Payment/Delivery

We offer 2 methods of delivery of our images; via FTP, or a download link (preferred). In most cases, you can expect to receive your high-resolution images the next business day, after payment is received. Payment can be made by credit card through PayPal, or by check for established customers.

Personal Use Licensing

We were getting so many requests for this type of use; we decided to make it available to our customers. Examples of allowed use would be printing at home, screensavers, wedding announcements, online personal profiles, Christmas cards, personal Websites, Facebook etc. Currently, we have 2 sizes available: small (500 pixels) – ideal for small photos on personal Website, Facebook etc. and medium (1500 pixels) – for small prints or larger photos on Website (up to 5x7). We may choose to add more sizes in the future. NOTE: for commercial Websites used for generating an income, please use the Rights Managed licensing method of licensing.

Payment/Delivery

To license an image for personal use

Go to our Photo Archive.
Choose an image and click on the thumbnail to see a larger image.
Click on the "License for Personal Use" link.
Choose the size you want.
If you're only ordering 1 image, click on "add and check out."
If ordering multiple images, click on "add to cart" and continue choosing images. When all images have been chosen, click on the "cart" link at the top of the image page.
Click on "Continue to Checkout."
Enter shipping information and click "Continue."
Confirm purchase, agree to Terms of Content Licensing Agreement and click on " Continue to PayPal for Payment."
After a transaction has been completed, PhotoShelter retrieves the appropriate file(s) from its database and creates a ZIP file. You will be notified via email when the files are ready for retrieval (usually a few minutes wait at the most), at which point you may log in to your “free” PhotoShelter account and click “My Downloads” to retrieve the ZIP. You will have up to 96 hours to download the images. After that, you will need to contact us if you need to retrieve the image again.
